Lake District Holiday Cottages - Take a Scenic Break in This Beautiful Region

I'm certain if you have ever visited the Lake District region you will have pleasurable memories of the lakes and mountains which are so integral to the area. You may also recall the rain which can be high at times but some how does not really manage to spoil the majesty of the place, but only enhance it.

For those who have not heard of it the lake District is a region in Cumbria in the North West of England. It is a national park in a particularly mountainous area with lakes such as Windemere and Bassenthwaite two of the most recognised. It also has a number of high peaks such as Scafell Pike and Bowfell. In fact it contains the highest regions in the UK.

It is about fifty-five kilometres across and is made up of rocky peaks and lower moorlands which much of it being boggy due to the great levels of rain that falls in the area each year. There is much farming that goes on there and in the last the place was known for textiles and copper mining. But in recent years most of the local income has come from tourism.

If you enjoy wildlife then you should love the Lake District. It is one of the few places in the UK where you will still find the red squirrel and there are many varieties of fish in the lakes including the vendace and the schelly which are both endangered.

One of the most relaxing experiences I continue to have each year is through staying at one of the idyllic Lake District cottages that can be found throughout the area. If you are looking for some great places to stay you may like to try the Keswick or Kendal regions which have particularly scenic views. These 2 locations in the area can be very popular but do have some remote places you can stay and keep some privacy.

They can really create a cosy and tranquil mood that only helps you enjoy the stay even more. Some people visit for the peace and quiet, while others for the activities prevalent, but a cottage is always a great point to return to at the end of each day.

If you are considering booking a cottage then you should probably aim to book quite well in advance if you want the most choice. There are some fantastic buildings but they can be very popular and get booked up quickly. So if you can make your mind up early then you could get an absolute treat.

Also consider that if the time of year is not a problem for you then you should be able to get a really prime location at an off-peak time of year. The cottages are often not filled outside of the peak months so you can probably get a cheaper deal as well.

However you choose to do it I would highly recommend making the Lake District a place you visit at some point in the future as the experience is so special it will not be forgotten. Try riding through Kendal or watching the theatre by the lake in Keswick. These are some of the best ways to spend your time in the Lake District.
